Ensure Safety - Safeguarding Yourself in the Global Community
We acknowledge that the vast majority, 99.9% of students and teachers, are honest and trustworthy. While we strive to maintain a clean and secure platform, it's impractical for us to verify everyone's credentials, intentions, and integrity. Therefore, it's essential for you to remain vigilant against potential financial and physical risks when engaging with unfamiliar individuals.
Important Tips
Online scams are prevalent, primarily due to the anonymity the internet provides. Our daily efforts focus on enhancing the system to foster trust among individuals. Meanwhile, here are key points to keep in mind.
- Meeting Precautions: If meeting in person, opt for public locations such as libraries or malls to ensure a secure environment. When meeting in person, the risk of financial fraud is comparatively lower. Prioritize your physical security as the primary concern. If you're unsure about how to handle yourself in such situations, if not, you can blame your parents.
- Secure Transactions on schoolbuddy.io: Utilize schoolbuddy.io for all payments. Transactions through our platform guarantee payment security for teachers and service assurance for students.

For Students:
- When making direct bank payments, exercise caution if the tutor's profile name doesn't align with the bank account details, as this may indicate potential fraud.
- Make payments via SchoolBuddy.io, where we securely hold your funds until you're satisfied with the required service. We also assist in facilitating refunds if you find the tutoring service unsatisfactory.
- Open a dispute if you don't get the promised service.
- If the teachers says to close a dispute as they will deliver shortly, just say politely that you will close dispute once they deliver as promised. This is important as you can't raise dispute again once you close a dispute.
- If not paying with schoolbuddy.io, pay as little as possible initially.
- Check our list of known scammers.
- Scammers often avoid using real names in their profiles, but they may provide accurate account details when it comes to receiving payment. It's crucial to double-check this information against known scams to ensure your security.

For Teachers:
- If receiving payment outside schoolbuddy.io, commence work only after securing at least a partial payment.
- Request payment through SchoolBuddy.io. Many students may be hesitant to pay upfront due to uncertainties about the services. However, with our payment protection (via escrow), they can pay you confidently as it is risk-free for them. Even if a student stops responding, you'll receive the funds within 30 days, providing added security for tutors, especially after services have been rendered.
- For projects or assignments, it's advisable to request payment in advance for the work to be undertaken. If a student is reluctant to pay the full amount upfront, consider asking for a partial payment. Submit proof of partial work completed and request additional payment to finalize the project.
- When engaged in online tutoring, offer a demo session of an hour or a duration you find suitable. This allows the student to assess if you are a good fit. For subsequent sessions, propose a deposit-as-you-go approach, ensuring payment aligns with the progression of lessons.
